One of my favorite female artits is Me’Shell NdegéOcello. I saw her at Lillith Fair about 10 years ago now. This is my favorite album of hers  “Peace Beyond Passion” and one of my favorite songs by her.

a tear and a smile

when we make Love

when we make Love i feel it so deeply
when we make Love i cry
when you kiss me my lips they burn with fear
for even a Love that crowns may crucify
when we make Love, when we make Love

do you hear me?
can you taste my pain?
for Love has no other desire
but to fulfill itself
but to deny yourself the pleasure of that pain,
is to Love,
oh so selfishly

oooh
i would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
for the joys of the multitude
oooh
and i would not have,
the tears that sadness makes to flow,
from my every part turn into laughter

when we make Love i feel it so deeply
when we make Love i cry,
i cry, i cry,
i cry
when you kiss me my lips they burn with fear
for even a Love that crowns may crucify
when we make Love,
when we make Love
when we make Love,
when we make Love
i feel you so deeply
when we make…
L o v e
i feel you so deeply

your heart laid captive in a cage
fashioned by your fears
and i stood there
not knowing what to say
you have so many lovers
and yet i alone Love you
far beyond any fairy tale

oooh
i would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
for the joys of the multitude
oooh
and i would not have,
the tears that sadness makes to flow,
from my every part turn into laughter

when we make Love i feel it so deeply
when we make Love i cry
when you kiss me my lips they,
burn with fear
for even a Love that crowns may crucify
in the cradle of creation
between the hands of Love i’ve died
and there you were i was warmed amidst the gaze of your eyes,
our minds in need of understanding,
our bodies betrayed by time

when we make Love
when we make Love i feel it so deeply
when we make Love,
when we make, Love
when we make Love
i feel you so,
i feel you so deeply
when we make,
L o v e
when we make Love.

“It is said that if you want to attain anything in life, attain a good death.”

~ Swami Muktananda

“Death, living, and questioning existence drive both this album and my life. On the last album, I was disillusioned by so many things. I thought making a record and receiving some form of public affirmation would bring me the love I desired in my life, only to find that what I wanted no one could give, and what I searched for lived in my heart waiting to be discovered.

I love music. It’s like a lover that I can’t commit to, but I seem to always find myself in bed with. With music, I free myself from myself.

With PEACE BEYOND PASSION, I hope the listener can not only hear the music, but feel it and create their own pictures. An artist is often asked to explain the meaning in the tune, especially the lyrics. I can never tell and make sense of what I’m attempting to get across to the listener. But I am more than satisfied with the dialogue created by the song.

This album is my journey towards understanding and allowing myself the freedom to question reality’s boundaries. I was once the angry child placing the majority of the blame for my sadness on my surroundings, only to find out that this body, my mind, and whatever wealth I accumulate mean nothing and that it was up to me to find the path leading to my death. I no longer spend my days in worry of tomorrow; instead I keep the thought of God ever present in hope that my days are filled with love for myself and others.
